Every time I visit Donna and Petula at thecoolredroom, I leave feeling like a million bucks. I sometimes suspect that there is some sort of magic or wizardry happening in that place; how else can I leave the salon each and every time I visit with absolutely perfect hair and feeling like I just spent a week at a spa?  Donna’s cuts cannot be beaten – I have never had a cut from her that I didn’t absolutely adore.  She listens to what you want, asks you about yourself and your lifestyle, and always comes up with a cut that is even better than what you had imagined yourself.  The techniques are always the latest, the styles are always fresh, but – most importantly – Donna tailors everything so it’s unique to you and suits you down to the ground.  And the cuts last – I’ve gone backpacking around the world with a cut from Donna and it looked fab even after three months of roughing it with no access to a hair dryer!

Petula is truly gifted with colour.  Again, she takes the time to fully understand what you’d like, makes fabulous suggestions, and the results have never been less than amazing.  I always say that I’d like my colour to be “natural, yet expensive looking” and Petula does it every time.  For my most recent visit, I just told Petula I would leave myself in her capable hands – that was pretty much all the direction I gave – and the results were perfection.  Shiny hair, with layers of subtle colour blending perfectly with my own colour (including the grey!) – I just love it.  Magic, I tells ya.

I don’t usually write reviews, and I’m not often given to gushing praise, but thecoolredroom is a superlative hair experience, and Donna and Petula just GET my hair.  I really can’t recommend them highly enough.  I live in England, and every time I’m back in Ottawa I make sure to stop in – it’s just that good.  How about opening a branch in Manchester, ladies?  😉
